This chain is a scaled down version of the chains made by the Picts in the 5th century.

The original chains were made from massive 10 mm wire with length of over a metre. They were worn as symbols of power and standing.

From a technical point of view, they raise many questions - how did they hand draw the wire? How did they form and cut it with no machine tools?
