Description

In bygone days when folk were more superstitious, it was thought that you should cross a baby’s hand with silver to bring it luck and to ensure that the fairies thought well of you.  A Scottish baby on its first outing will receive silver coins from complete strangers.

The ancient pattern of intertwined hearts, the Luckenbooth pattern was the inspiration for the design of this spoon, which is a modern version of the old Scots Baptismal Spoon, which was used to pour Holy Water on the infant’s head, to save it from evil spirits and to ensure a good start in life.
